EDF Energy
The hydroelectric system supplied by EDF Energy generates power to charge high capacity batteries. Water is harnessed and collected from a small stream and sent down a 20mm pipe. The gradient and distance for the water travels, before it gets to the turbine, is around 1 kilometer and is sufficient to turn the small turbine at great speed generating power to charge the high capacity batteries, situated around 2 kilometers at the hostel, giving plenty of electricity for the day to day business of running a youth hostel. Before this the hostel used a diesel-powered generator.
