The Isle of Staffa
A volcanic island around 10 kilometres west of the Isle of Mull. Consisting of colonnades of black hexagonal columns, fine-grained Tertiary basalt with a top layer of basalt lava without crystalline structure. The isle is visited daily by boat tours of tourists which come especially to view Fingal's Cave, a deep cave made by slow cooling lava, forming and lining the interior with the hexagon shaped columns.
